The Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart has taken first prize in the architectural planning competition “Plus-Energy House with Electromobility” issued by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building, and Urban Development. The proposed design was developed by an interdisciplinary team directed by Werner Sobek, who is the Mies van der Rohe Professor at IIT’s College of Architecture.
Gary Comer College Prep on Chicago’s South Side was named one of Architectural Record’s Schools of the 21st Century. Located in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, Comer Prep was designed by John Ronan, Associate Professor at the College of Architecture at IIT.
Grassroots efforts on and off campus are trying to save the Bookstore at North Carolina State University. Designed by Mies student, G. Milton Small, Jr., and completed in 1960, the building heralded the rise of the university’s School of Design to national prominence.
